Art for a Purpose and OA Sotheby's to host RAL fundraiser Dec. 18
Art for A Purpose, A Midge Smith Fine Art Gallery of Lewes, will be hosting an event which is free and open to the public from 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 18, in which a percentage of proceeds from art sales will benefit the Rehoboth Art League.
This is the third of five gallery shows throughout November and December where a portion of the profits will go directly to a designated local non-profit. Ocean Atlantic Sotheby’s International Realty is sponsoring these events and their Lewes office also serves as a secondary showroom for the gallery, featuring approximately 10 works of art.
Visit both locations and enjoy a beverage while savoring an eclectic assortment of about 70 pieces of art. Come to the gallery at 135 Second St. on the second floor, and just a few steps away to the OA Sotheby’s office at 102 Savannah Road.
Art for a Purpose opened its doors on Second Street in Lewes in October 2011 with the unique mission of bringing art and philanthropy together. The tax-exempt organization accepts works of art directly from donors, sells the art, and then distributes proceeds of the sales directly to other charitable organizations. Smith, the gallery’s director, is pleased with the wide assortment of quality art work that has been donated which carries price tags of $75 to $40,000.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this vibrant community and are so pleased with the number of people who are finding time to stop by for these events. We certainly appreciate their support,” Smith said.
If interested in donating a piece of artwork for the gallery to sell, there is still time to meet the end of the year tax deadline. See www.artforapurpose.org for details or call 302-245-4528.
There are some intriguing and eclectic pieces of sculpture and paintings which have been donated by art collectors from across the country. In addition, of particular interest, the gallery has a collection of eight signed works by the Russian-born, French artist Erté, plus two by French-born Icart - both of whose works are in museums and private collections throughout the world - plus many pieces produced by well-known artists from several states and some by local artists.
