Agricultural museum offers RV and car camping and parking for June 1 to 3 NASCAR weekend in Dover

The Delaware Agricultural Museum has RV and car camping, plus parking available for Dover's NASCAR weekend, Friday to Sunday, June 1 to 3. The museum offers hard surfaces and grassy areas and can park any RV, motor home, pop-up or camper. There is grassy tent camping in the museum's 1890s village.  The bleachers at Dover Downs are visible from its from front door. Indoor bathrooms are available during certain hours and port-a-johns after hours (no showers). The museum is within walking distance of the track, grocery stores, etc.  The museum is also available for camping and parking for the Sept. 28 to 30 NASCAR weekend.   For more information, go to www.agriculturalmuseum.org.

Maggio Shields and Aqua Grill to host May 18 dinner to benefit Meals on Wheels

Sponsored by Maggio Shields and Aqua Grill, a spaghetti dinner, dance and silent auction to benefit Meals on Wheels of Lewes and Rehoboth will take place from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday, May 18, at Aqua Grill, 57 Baltimore Ave. in Rehoboth. Musical entertainment will be provided by Mara.

Dinner includes salad, spaghetti, dessert, bread and a nonalcoholic beverage. A cash bar will also be available. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $9 for children under 10. Milton Theatre looks for volunteers for canoe, kayak race Aug. 25

The Milton Theatre organization is looking for volunteers to help with planning and preparation for its 13th Annual Canoe and Kayak Race on the Broadkill River. The race is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25, the same day that the Milton Chamber of Commerce holds its annual Bargains on the Broadkill and Great Duck Race events. The canoe and kayak race begins at Oyster Rocks and ends about 10 miles upstream at Milton's Memorial Park, the site of the chamber events.

The Milton Theatre has been holding this race for 12 years. What's needed now are the people who would enjoy being involved in the organization of the race and seeing it through to the big day, cheering on the winners at the park.

Indian River Life-Saving Station Tour May 19

The public is invited to a tour of the Indian River Life-Saving Station with a knowledgeable interpreter at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 19.  Founded in 1876, The Life-Saving Service employed surfmen along the United States coastlines to patrol the beaches for signs of shipwreck. At this life-saving station, surfmen saved 419 lives plus cargo.  The service merged into the Coast Guard in 1915.

As the only station in the country that is restored and in its original location, the Indian River Life-Saving Station is a unique building that serves to tell the stories of these turn-of the century heroes. This room-by-room tour uncovers the challenges and rewards in the life of a surfman.

The Indian River Life-Saving Station and Museum is on Route 1, 1.5 miles north of the Indian River Inlet. The program fee is $5 per person, and preregistration is required. To register, call 302-227-6991.

Family Fun May 19: Terrapin Talk

The staff of the Indian River Life-Saving Station invites the public to the next Family Fun program, Terrapin Talk, at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 19.  With the guidance of a park naturalist, participants of all ages will learn about one of the few reptiles found at the beach - the diamondback terrapin! The cost for this program is $4 per person and participants should preregister.

The Family Fun Series is for the whole family’s enjoyment. Each program will feature a topic or craft that explores the history, resources or just plain fun of the beach. Little Keepers preschool program May 16: Crabby Crustaceans

The staff of the Indian River Life-Saving Station invites the public to the next Little Keepers program, Crabby Crustaceans, at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 16.  Participants will explore the fascinating life cycle of the blue crab and learn about catching and eating these delicious marine creatures.

Specifically targeted for 3-to-5-year-olds, Little Keepers programs feature stories, crafts and activities that explore place-based science and history topics. The cost of each program is $3 per child and all materials are included. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Preregistration is required.

Watercolor and Haiku workshop May 16

Rosemary Connelly and Marylou Sheaffer will offer a Watercolor Journaling and Haiku Workshop from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, at Sheaffer's home, 432 Kings Highway, Milford. No prior experience with watercolor or poetry is necessary.

Mixed Media and Collage at Millsboro Art League May 17 to 19

The Millsboro Art League is hosting a mixed media and collage workshop by Laurie Daddona from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday to Saturday, May 17 to  19.  Students will learn how to bring new excitement and expression to their artwork through mixed media. Gospel production to explore family issues May 19

Frank W. Gibbs II will present the critically acclaimed gospel production “No More Drama 2” at 6 p.m., Saturday, May 19, at Milford High School. Doors open at 5 p.m. The plot is centered around the Harris family, an upper middle-class family that’s just been hit with three unusual problems all at once. With discoveries being made, family secrets starting to reveal themselves and tensions boiling, the family must somehow rally back from the position of despair into a place of peace and victory.

“No More Drama 2” takes a panoramic view of three major issues that could destroy the fabric of any family unit. Not only does this production shed light on these issues, but it also gives helpful advice on how to overcome them. This production is a collaboration full of drama, ministry, comedy and music, and appropriate for the entire family. Stargazing May 20 at Delaware Seashore State Park

Delaware Seashore State Park will host an evening of stargazing at 8:30 p.m., Sunday, May 20. This program is $5 per participant and preregistration is required.

If the night sky is clear, participants will head out to the beach. Participants are invited to bring a blanket and a pillow to enjoy this program lying down. If the sky is cloudy, the program will move indoors and use an interactive Stellarium to view the night sky and identify the constellations. It takes eyes up to 20 minutes to adjust to the dark, so flashlights should be left at home even if the program is inside. The park will provide red lights to maintain night vision.

Delaware Shore Artists Group to meet May 20

The public is invited to join the artists of the Delaware Shore Artists Group from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 20, at the Cordrey Center in Millsboro. Artists will critique each other's works and welcome input from the audience. Some artwork will be available for purchase. The artists are Judy Berkman, Judy Catterton, Ken Catterton, Jane Duffy, Janei Folz, Alan Keffer, Ken Kusterer, Jane Knaus, Carol Lucia-Passo, LaVerne McIntyre, Melissa McLean, Linda Minkowski, Celia Ludwig, Margie Spaulding and Phyllis Zwarych. Annapolis Bluegrass Coalition to open Milton summer concert series May 23

The 2012 Milton Memorial Park Free Summer Concert Series begins at 7 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, with a performance by the Annapolis Bluegrass Coalition.

The event is hosted by the Town of Milton's Park and Recreation Committee and sponsored by Bob Willey & Sons, Gordy Insurance and The Milton Chamber of Commerce.

The public is invited for this early start of a popular music experience in Sussex County. Audience members should bring a blanket or lawn chair. Alcohol and tobacco are not permitted. This year, in case of bad weather, the show moves to The Milton Fire Department on Front and Chestnut streets. Concerts will be presented at 7 p.m. each Wednesday throughout the summer.

Beachcombing Program May 26 at Delaware Seashore State Park

The staff of the Indian River Life-Saving Station in Delaware Seashore State Park invites the public to a beachcombing program at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 26.   A park naturalist will discuss the importance of ocean beaches, and participants will see specimens of shells and other items commonly found on the beautiful, undeveloped Atlantic Ocean beach.

The cost for this program is $3 per person; participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and wear shoes that can get wet, as the group will try some beachcombing. At the end of the program, attendees will discuss their findings and learn about some of the birds that call the beach home.

Family Fun May 26: Horseshoe Crabs

The staff of the Indian River Life-Saving Station invites the public to the next Family Fun program, Horseshoe Crabs, at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 26.  With the guidance of a park naturalist, participants will explore the horseshoe crab.

The program explains the role the horseshoe crab plays in the environment and how they are used to help keep people healthy. The cost for this program is $4 per person and participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and to wear shoes that can get wet. Preregistration is required.

Lantern tours of the Indian River Life-Saving Station Museum May 27

Delaware Seashore State Park invites the public to take a step back in time with the crew at the Life-Saving Station at 8:30 p.m., Sunday, May 27, for an evening lantern tour of the museum. This unique program allows participants to explore the Life-Saving Station and learn about shipwrecks and heroism on the Delaware coast.

Led by an interpreter dressed in the uniform of the turn-of-the-century Life-Saving Service patrol, the tour will detail the courage and hardship the surfmen endured as they patrolled the beaches of the Delaware coast every night, scanning the waters for signs of ships in distress.

The program fee is $10 per person, and preregistration is required. Participants should dress for the weather.

Coastal Camera Club to hold annual exhibit June 2 to 28

The Coastal Camera Club will again present to the public its annual photographic art exhibit and sale Saturday, June 2 through Thursday, June 28, at Nassau Valley Vineyards in Lewes.  The vineyard is open daily 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Saturdays, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

More than 30 participating artists will be displaying their art photography in this unique local vineyard setting. In addition to enjoying the hanging art, visitors can observe the wine cellar through long glass viewing stations.

An artists' reception will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, June 10, where visitors will be able to interact with the artists, ask questions, and learn more about the many different styles and techniques. Delaware Humane Association to present new event June 8

Delaware Humane Association is forgoing its Walk for the Animals at the Beach this year and hosting a new event, Wags, Whiskers & Wine, a dog-friendly casual cocktail party to be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., Friday, June 8, at Nassau Valley Vineyards, 32165 Winery Way, Lewes.

Animal lovers who support DHA will enjoy hors d'oeuvres by The Blue Moon, desserts by Liberty Lane Bake Shoppe, open bar (beer, wine and Wags and Whiskers signature cocktails), music by Dune Tunes, silent auction, pet photo booth by Partyshots and dog treats by Tail Bangers.

This event will take place outside in the Bacchus Grove under a canopy of 40-year-old sycamore trees overlooking the vineyards, so partygoers should dress accordingly (casual attire). In the event of rain, the party will move inside. Dogs are welcome and must be on leashes.

Julie Baxendell retrospective set for July 5-28 in Milford

The Mispillion Art League will host a retrospective exhibit of the works of the late Julie Baxendell from July 5 to 28, with an opening reception from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, July 13. Baxendell was a Sussex County artist who was known for painting local scenes and far-away places including Key West, Portugal, Italy and Scotland. She was an active member of the Rehoboth Art League and one of the founders of the Artists' Exchange. The exhibit is presented in association with Mary Ann Benyo, her partner since 1984.
