Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Monthly Screening series will feature “Incendies” at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 30, in the upstairs screening room at the Movies at Midway.

According to Washington Post film critic Michael O'Sullivan, “'Incendies' knocks you off your feet and leaves you shaken. It is no surprise that it was nominated for a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar.” The film follows a pair of twins, Jeanne and Simon Marwan, as they travel from Quebec to Lebanon, looking for clues about their heritage in Lebanon’s war-torn history.

This journey is impelled by the death of their mother, Nawal. Upon reading her will, the twins are stunned to receive a pair of envelopes to deliver, one for the father they thought was dead and another for a brother they didn’t know existed. Jeanne is eager to begin the search, thinking she can find the key to her mother’s unexplained silence during the final weeks of her life. She travels to the Middle East to trace a family history of which she knows next to nothing.

Although initially reluctant, Simon eventually joins his sister. The twins piece together the story of the woman who brought them into the world, discovering someone more courageous and exceptional than the mother they knew.

Monthly screenings are $3 for Rehoboth Beach Film Society members (current membership card must be presented) and $5 for nonmembers.

The mission of the RBFS is to promote the art of film and, through outreach initiatives, to entertain, educate and enrich the cultural life of local and extended communities.  The Rehoboth Beach Film Society is funded, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
