A brief history of our fine, family-owned establishment ...

At our location, Flemuel (a former merchant marine and deep-sea diver) and Doris Lynch (a wonderful cook and food service expert), first opened The Village Cupboard, an imported cheese and gourmet food store. The Bay Road Package Store (right next door to the Captain's Table) is the original family business and we thought this would be the perfect combination -- fine wines & fine cheeses.

As time went on, The Village Cupboard began to serve lunches. We set up half of the shop with tables and chairs, which filled everyday  with people craving Doris's homemade soups and famous chili. People could not get enough of her wonderful Sussex County home cooking, so in 1978 we made the change from a gourmet food shop to a full-service restaurant. Flemuel Lynch inspired us to name the restaurant The Captain's Table. He shared with us many stories of his life on and in the sea.

Founded on fine home cooking, The Captain's Table continues this tradition. Everything on our menu is homemade & our fried seafood is hand-breaded when you order it. Chef Doris's famous dishes include her chili, award-winning Crab Cakes and Crab Imperial. It is our wish for you to enjoy an excellent dining experience. We hope to serve you at The Captain's Table very soon!
