Carlton L. Tull, loved to sing
Carlton L. Tull, 92, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012.
Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Elva D. Tull and brother Maurice Tull, he is survived by a brother, William Edwin Tull; son Carlton "Lee" Tull Jr. and his wife Vicki of Rehoboth Beach, nieces Ruth Sneller, Dorcas Taylor and Lois Dunn; and nephews Glenn Cannon, Wayne Dill, Doug Cannon and William Tull.
Born in Crisfield, Md., in 1919 to Herbert and Cora Lee Washington Tull, Carlton started working at the DuPont plant in Seaford in 1940 and retired in July 1981. He had many jobs at DuPont, first in manufacturing, then as paymaster and cashier. The last 11 years he spent as manager of the DuPont Credit Union, now known as the Sussex County Federal Credit Union. During his time at DuPont he was drafted into the Army. During World War II, he served from 1942-46 with the 100th Infantry Division that landed in Marseilles and fought all the way to Stuttgart. He was awarded a Bronze Star.
Carlton was active in many things. He loved to sing and was a member of the Mt. Olivet U.M.E. choir for more than 40 years and a member of the Barbershop Chorus and Quartet for 35 years. He was also an avid golfer and longtime member of the Seaford Golf and Country Club, where he honed his skills on the course. Carlton will be remembered as a loving husband and father and caring friend.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 30, at the Cranston Funeral Home, 300 N. Shipley St., Seaford, where friends may call from 1 to 2. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 315 High St, Seaford, DE 19973.
