20th Annual Tribute to Bob Marley set for July 26

The 20th Annual Peoples’ Festival 4Peace Tribute to Bob Marley will take place Saturday and Sunday, July 26 and 27, in Wilmington.

Between noon and 10 p.m., Saturday, the Tubman-Garret Riverfront Park in Wilmington will be jamming with music by the Reggae Ambassadors and iconic band Third World. With hits like "96 Degrees in the Shade" and "Now That We’ve Found Love," this band has been making hit records since the mid-70s Joining them will be I-Octane with his Roots Reggae performance and his Dancehall show at the Official After Party at Delaware Live from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Visiting Wilmington and on the stage of the Peoples’ Festival for a second time is dub poet, author, and No. 1 radio talk show host in Jamaica Mutabaruka, host and emcee of this year’s 20th annual celebration. Local band Spokey Speaky will give a live musical tribute to Bob Marley as they open the One Love stage.

A list of bands coming from far and near will complete the lineup on two stages.

Aside from the popular Children’s Village are the Vendors’ Alley, International Food Court and Bamboo Rain Hut and Beer Garden. The Healing Garden will be manned by top-ranked therapists in reike, chair massage, crystal readings and yoga, who will introduce holistic ways of healing, The Peace Pavilion is a platform where nonprofit agencies can gather to talk about what they do.

A special forum will take place from noon to 6 p.m., Sunday, July 27, at Delaware Live. Bob Marley sang about Marcus Garvey and his important contribution to the roots of Rastafarian religion and culture. Mutabaruka will be the guest speaker for this important discussion. The day will include a Marley archives exhibit,  authors' pavilion, book signing, vendors,  vegetarian and vegan food, drum and dance performance, a panel discussion and more.
