A simple solution for Rehoboth's scooter issue

By Gary Frahm | Apr 25, 2013

Now in my third year of scooting and parking in Rehoboth, I have not witnessed a single instance of public danger between motorized-scooter drivers and Rehoboth Avenue/Boardwalk pedestrians. Why not simply leave scooter parking in Rehoboth as it was with one exception: drivers must turn off their motors and dismount their scooter before attempting to park near the city sidewalk bicycle racks.

Bicyclists must walk their bikes on sidewalks, so too should moped/scooter drivers. Issue of public safety solved. With the limited number of spaces being offered to a growing scooter ridership this summer, one will not have a hard time imagining the multitude of other problems that will ensue – including frayed tempers – as an entirely new group of motorists taxes an already overburdened parking infrastructure in Rehoboth Beach.
