All Schools Conference set for May 8

The Vision Network of Delaware will host its second annual All Schools Conference Thursday, May 8. This year’s theme, The Power of Our Network, will feature keynote speaker Dr. Freeman Hrabowski III, president of the University of Maryland Baltimore County, who will be introduced by Gov. Jack Markell. Hrabowski’s speech will include the topics of collaborative inquiry, and transformational teaching and learning.

Hrabowski has served as president of the University of Maryland Baltimore County since 1992. His research and publications focus on science and math education with special emphasis on minority participation and performance. He chaired the National Academies Press committee that produced the recent report Expanding Underrepresented Minority Participation: America’s Science and Technology Talent at the Crossroads. He was also recently named by President Barack Obama to chair the newly created President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African-Americans. He and UMBC were recently featured on CBS’s "60 Minutes," attracting national attention for the campus’s achievements in innovation and inclusive excellence.

Members of the public are invited to attend the keynote speech. Limited seats are available at no cost and require advance registration. The event will be held in the Dover Downs Hotel, 1131 N DuPont Highway, Dover. Hrabowski will speak from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.; doors open at 1 p.m.
