AmeriCorps: Leaders wanted for work with Sussex Habitat
AmeriCorps engages more than 80,000 Americans in intensive service each year at nonprofits, schools, and public agencies as well as community and faith-based groups across the country.
Since the program's founding in 1994, more than 800,000 AmeriCorps members have contributed more than a billion hours in service across America while tackling pressing problems and mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve.
Locally, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity has engaged AmeriCorps members to help in many ways over the last five years. This year alone, members have contributed over 22,000 hours in community service outreach, building homes, coordinating volunteers, working with partner families and managing media and special events.
Some members serve full time over the course of a summer and others dedicate up to two years in full-time service.
As members move on to finish their education or bring their skills to the community in other capacities, SCHFH hopes to encourage others to step into service and help Sussex Habitat accomplish its mission of building community by building homes and hope. In addition to the rich rewards that come with service, AmeriCorps members receive a monthly living allowance, health benefits and an education award following completion of service. SCHFH also has some limited housing available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Recruiting for the following positions is now in progress: construction site crew leaders, events coordinator, volunteer coordinator, media coordinator and a variety of positions in SCHFH's ReStore.
