The Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Lewes Public Library and Movies at Midway announce the year’s final screening in its Around the World series of critically acclaimed, international independent films. The provocative comedy-drama “Amador” will be presented at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the upstairs screening room at Movies at Midway. Admission to this film series is free and open to the public.

In this acutely observed character study, Marcela, a young Bolivian immigrant with financial troubles, finds a summer job looking after Amador, a bedridden elderly man whose family is away. Over time, the unlikely couple share personal stories and secrets. Amador’s sudden death leaves Marcela jobless, something she can't afford to let happen. Faced with a difficult moral dilemma, Marcela will prove that death can't always stop life.

This thoughtful and timely look at a culture clash little seen outside of Spain “successfully blends black comedy, lyricism and social critique," observed Variety. Written and directed by Spanish filmmaker Fernando León de Aranoa (who wrote the Javier Bardem film “Mondays in the Sun”), this film garnered acting nominations from the Spanish Cinema Writers Circle for its two stars.
