Art league 2014 salons begin with Art of Relationships Jan. 23
The Rehoboth Art League’s January, February and March salons will feature Art of Relationships, Art of Russia and a double topic, Art of Mixology & Art of Creating Documentary Films. The monthly salons are creative and intellectual gatherings in the homes of inspiring hosts. Each salon features a unique and vibrant art-related topic with one or more guest speakers. Presentations are followed by a discussion led by a leading professional on that month’s topic.
Salon No. 7, Art of Relationships, set for Thursday, Jan. 23, will feature a panel of therapists: Donna and Tom Ledbetter, Kathryn Harris, and Dr. Richard Todd. They will share some ideas on handling conflict, communications, and intimacy. Relationships provide significant meaning and joy in people's lives, but are deeply challenging. There is truly an art to creating and sustaining vitality and connection with partners, families, or friends. This salon will be held at 6 p.m. at the Milton home of Barbara Carrow. Attendance is limited to 25, so early registration is suggested.
Art of Russia, Salon No. 8, will begin at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15. Peter Antolini will host the salon in the historic Peter Marsh Homestead to share Russian paintings from his private collection. The history of socialist realist painting is a tale of extraordinary movement in the art of the 20th century with a scale unmatched anywhere in the world. Socialist realism emphasized the social role of art: it insisted on the superiority of content over form. Russian painting has, in general, the look and feel of European painting, and it has been broadly shaped by European influence. However, long periods of political and cultural self-absorption have established a chronology of change that is peculiarly Russian.
Debra Killeen will host Salon No. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 27, at local favorite Dogfish Head Brewings and Eats, 320 Rehoboth Ave. in Rehoboth Beach. Attendees can relax, enjoy and learn The Art of Mixology and have a few off-centered drinks from the masters at Dogfish. The evening will combine the art of the perfect drink with The Art of Creating Documentary Films. Gary Merz will discuss his award-winning documentary, "Dancing on a Volcano." Merz's passion for directing a story is seen through the eyes of strong-willed artist Nadja Hammermann. Limited to 75 guests.
Refreshments and appetizers are served at each salon. Tickets for the January, February and March salons are $25 each and preregistration is required. The salons have been well received and the limited seating for each sells out quickly. Tickets are available online at www.rehobothartleague.org or by calling 302-227-8408. The remaining 2014 schedule of salons will be announced once details are finalized.
