The SouthEastern Delaware Artists Studio Tour will turn 20 this fall. The art tour, which will take place Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28 and 29, is one of the oldest running artist tours in the Mid Atlantic area. This year’s tour will allow everyone to visit the studios of 13 of Delaware’s top artists, many from the Bethany and Ocean View areas.

Each year the SEDAST artists create a piece of artwork for their raffle, Art in a Hat. The purpose of the raffle is to collect money to help the art programs of the Indian River School District. The artists feel an important part of the tour is to have a successful raffle so they can give back to the community.  Since 1999, they have given over $48,000 to the schools. Last year, one of the recipients was the John M. Clayton Elementary School. The teacher was able to provide the children with sketchbooks and other art materials to help them with their artistic endeavors.

Returning to the tour this year is artist Jonathan Spivak, who was with the tour for six years but dropped out to pursue his other love - cooking.  Spivak is an abstract artist who uses liquid acrylics and acrylics mixed with water as his medium. He is a colorist and uses various degrees of tone, intensity and brightness of color to influence the viewer.

In June, Spivak was a part of a two-man show at the Art Center in Ocean City, Md. In recent years, Spivak suffered from Stage 3 lymphoma and was on life support for 72 hours after he had a lump near his jaw removed. He went through chemotherapy for 18 weeks and still has full body scans every six months.  His new work is reflective of his outlook on life since he fought (and won!) his battle with cancer.

Brochures for the self-guided tour will be available in July. For more information, contact Pat Frey at 302-732-6172, join on Facebook or visit www.ArtStudioTour.com.
