Artist Jan Crooker presents Color - Borrowing from the Masters March 23

Mar 19, 2013
Source: Submitted Artist Jan Crooker, whose work is shown here, will present a free color workshop Saturday, March 23, at the Dover Art League.

Artist Jan Crooker is holding a free workshop from noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 23, at the Dover Art League, 21 W. Loockerman St. She will be covering how to interpret the palettes of well-known artists and adapt their expertise into one's own works. Crooker paints in vibrant colors reminiscent of Van Gogh.

In her current show, Color and Contrast, the theme is landscape. The show also shows a strong influence of Edward Hopper in the desolation of isolated buildings devoid of life. Her work, however, is anything but somber, as the infusion of color gives a depth and clarity of light. In the workshop, Crooker will demonstrate how she analyzes colors and will answer questions about any part of the artistic process in the allotted time.

Participants are encouraged to bring acrylic paints (six colors of cool and warm primaries plus white) and a small practice panel. Crooker’s presentation will cover many aspects of color. Participation as a painter is not mandatory; listeners are welcome. Patrons who wish to develop a greater art appreciation and other interested parties such as decorators, set designers, etc. are encouraged to attend. Crooker will focus on how color choices influence the final painting.

Crooker is the featured artist during the month of March in the Holden Gallery, located upstairs in the Dover Art League on Loockerman Street. This workshop and show are free and open to the public. Funding is provided by the Delaware Division of the Arts. For further information on workshop or gallery hours contact the Dover Art League at 302-674-0402 or go to www.doverartleague.com.
