Auditions set April 27-28 for Second Street Players’ summer comedy

Apr 12, 2014

Auditions for the Second Street Players’ summer comedy, “Doctor Jekyll, No Place to Hyde,” directed by Robin Twilley, will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday and Monday, April 27 and 28, at the Riverfront Theater, 2 S. Walnut St. in downtown Milford.
Performance dates for “Doctor Jeckyll, No Place to Hyde” are July 11, 12, 18, and 19 at 8 p.m., and July 13 and 20 at 3 p.m.

While there have been dozens of stage and film adaptations of the classic story about the good doctor and his evil split personality, Second Street Players will present a whimsically warped version that features meek Dr. Henry Jekyll, his wise-cracking servant, whining fiancé, overbearing mother, man-hungry sister, and many others (including Hyde, Jekyll’s maniacal alter ego) to keep the action fast-paced and furiously hysterical.

The all-adult cast requires five males and five females.

Male roles are Henry Jeckyll (a meek 19th century physician who’s keen on experimenting), Chives (Henry’s manservant, a sarcastic and downtrodden type), Andre LePlume (a French cabaret owner, a bit sinister and conniving), Officer Crackle (an English bobby) and Sir Hyde (a rather hairy and coarse type). Female roles are Prunella Pepperdill (Henry’s loud, pompous and spoiled fiancé), Madam Jekyll (Henry’s mother, a large dowager), Ethyl Jekyll (Henry’s dimwitted sister), Mimi LaPlume (Andre’s flirtatious daughter) and Carla LaPlume (Andre’s large wife).

Auditions will use cold readings from the script. No previous stage experience is necessary to audition, and attendance at both auditions is not required.

Rehearsals will be held at Riverfront Theater Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings beginning May 19 and continuing through opening night.
For more information, or for those who wish to audition but are not available on the two scheduled evenings, contact Robin Twilley at rbtwilley@yahoo.com.
