Beebe Foundation honors golf tournament chairs at annual Donor Reception
Beebe Medical Foundation recently honored the chairs of its three golf tournaments at its annual Donor Reception Sept. 22.
Since its inception in 2004, the Progress for Prostate Golf Tournament committee, under the leadership of Bob Davis, has raised more than $200,000. The funds have been used to purchase a community health van and provide free screenings for prostate cancer throughout the community. Davis founded the tournament after he conquered his own battle with prostate cancer.
The Baywood Classic Golf Tournament began in 2006, and under the leadership of Bill Marty has since raised more than $250,000 for unrestricted use to benefit Tunnell Cancer Center. Some of the funds have been used to purchase IV pumps and upgrade Tunnell’s linear accelerator, which delivers radiation treatment to patients.
The Jean & Joan Cancer Fund was co-founded in 2000 by Jim Martin in memory of his wife Joan Martin, and by Al James in memory of his wife Jean James. Both women lost their brave battles with cancer. Over the last 12 years, the tournament has raised more than $350,000 and has benefited the Patient Special Needs Fund and Tunnell’s Transportation Fund. Most recently, the group funded the request to purchase six workstations on wheels to help the staff at Tunnell provide even more efficient care to its patients.
Collectively, this group has raised more than $800,000 for cancer care at Tunnell Cancer Center.
“We are so appreciative of our generous donors! Our patients reap the benefits of their donations and it provides us with funding to support our patients that we wouldn’t be able to do otherwise,” says Cherrie Rich, RN, MSN, executive director of Oncology Services for Beebe Medical Center.
