Beebe Healthcare: A diamond in the sand

By Ted Imbach | Nov 06, 2013

Just last week on a visit to Lewes for some ocean and bad golf, I discovered a little known gem.

Coming off the beach after reading, I experienced a quick shortness of breath - no, not some bikini - a pop of no air. I stopped and continued over the small dune and maybe another shortness. What is going on? I feel fine. I used to be a lifeguard. Back to our rooms and off to dinner, then a 10 a.m. tee time at The Rookery. Beautiful day, no crowds - a quick shortness of breath and a pretty good tee shot. But I do not “feel well.”

Off the course, to the ER at Beebe Medical Center - no pains, no sweats, no trouble breathing - maybe I am overreacting. At Beebe, “what's the problem?” “Shortness of breath.” Got in this wheelchair and off we go.

Absolutely the best care and attitude by everyone. The entire battery of tests are done very professionally and with dispatch always with an eye on my demeanor. “Blood work says something is going on.” “I feel fine.” “How about we do the gold test – an angiogram on Monday and you stay with us over the weekend or you can check out.” “I think I will stay.”

So, three nights in Room 501 with the best team of nurses. And great – I mean great food and lots of time to hang out and have someone watch over me.

Monday morning, the angiogram shows a blocked stent that was put in six or seven years ago and it is repaired. I leave Tuesday morning.

Was it a great weekend? You betcha! The people and attitude were world-class and I have been in hospitals in Maryland and Colorado.

Just wanted folks to know, as an unbiased visitor, that you have a diamond in downtown Lewes.

I am doing fine and my golf still stinks!

Thanks to all of you,
