Believe it or not, no golf news this week!
With this continued cold weather here, I feel like it's football season again, especially with the overkill of media efforts about the NFL draft. It is true I am a big NFL fan and watch ESPN as much as anybody can, but I even think they have gone a bit overboard with the amount of coverage that's been devoted to the NFL draft. It's been building up for months! Does all that really deserve our time and attention for that long? But, since the draft is finally upon us, I think the Eagles need to draft a wide receiver to replace Desean Jackson and need to do it in the first round. I will discuss the outcome of it all next week. For now, it will just be interesting to see how it all finally plays out.
I typically don't watch horse racing except for the Triple Crown races. I will definitely be hoping that the favorite, California Chrome, goes on to win the Preakness in two weeks. It would make the Belmont in June a great event and interesting to watch. If California Chrome makes it that far, I will even wear a celebratory hat in his honor to go on and win that Triple Crown! There has not been a Triple Crown winner since 1978!
Unfortunately, I will not be reporting any news on the Philadelphia Flyers since they lost in game seven to the New York Rangers. That loss was a pretty weak performance, especially in the second period. They had a great season overall considering they started the season 1 - 7 and made the playoffs anyway. I don't have a favorite at this juncture, but I will be rooting for the Los Angeles Kings to take the Stanley Cup because there are some ex-Flyers on the team.
The English Premier season of soccer will end on Sunday, May 11. The only two teams that have a chance to win that championship are Liverpool and Manchester City. Liverpool is my pick because it's been 25 years since they have won that championship and I would love to see Steven Gerrard possibly end his career with a sweet title. After Sunday, we can officially start the countdown to the World Cup in Brazil.
