We were the first to arrive for the annual Gras Lecture at George Mason University. No one in the overflow crowd was more excited than I when T. Colin Campbell appeared on the platform in front of us. He is slight, unassuming and personable just as he appears in his many YouTube lectures I have watched. His message is clear, provocative and persuasive bringing the wisdom of more than 50 years of nutrition research at Cornell University where he is the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional Biochemistry. With no commercial interests, nothing to sell, no profits to be made, he is unflinching in his commitment to scientific truth in the face of rampant nutritional misinformation.
He pressed on with his straight forward, scientifically grounded message explaining why food choice is our best bet for personal health, societal health and planet health—that our choice of plant-based foods over a diet laden with animal protein means massive reduction of chronic diseases, dramatic decrease in health care costs and stepping back from the perilous impact of greenhouse gas emissions from livestock production.
I was profoundly moved to be in the presence of the man who has changed my life and that of so many others around the globe. If you are concerned, as I am, about personal and global health, then T. Colin Campbell is your BEST BET!
