Best of Kent County Gallery opens at Kent County Tourism
Artists in Kent County have found a new place to exhibit and sell their work, thanks to a partnership with Kent County Tourism.
“Our office has a very visible location on Route 13, and visitors and business people are in and out all day long,” said Cindy Small, executive director of Kent County Tourism. “Now we can showcase local artists’ work to this clientele.”
Small said a study conducted by the Americans for the Arts in 2012 revealed that Delaware residents spent $17.71 per person on arts and culture in the First State, while visitors spent $55.93 per person.
“We have a long history of showcasing local businesses, musicians and artisans to our visitors,” Small said. “We do that on a daily basis as well as during the Dover Days Festival, Amish Country Bike Tour and the Delaware Wine & Beer Festival. Years ago, we featured local art on the walls in our office, but this new space was designed specifically as exhibition space.”
Current featured artists include Rosemary Connelly, Milford; Dianne Bauer, Harrington; N. Taylor Collins, Dover; Stephanie Seeman, Dover; Jan Crumpley, Dover; and Maria Bessette, Dover. On exhibit and for sale will be a variety of paintings, jewelry and accessories along with fused glass and other items. Crumpley is serving as the volunteer curator to ensure the artwork is frequently refreshed.
Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted. For more information, call Kent County Tourism, 302-734-4888.
