Bethel Museum to exhibit doll fashions

Jul 22, 2014

The Bethel Museum is hosting an exhibit of doll fashions through the ages. In the display there will be dolls with clothing from years gone by as well as dolls wearing more modern clothing. Doll furniture will be utilized in the displays.

Sandy Williams, who was born and raised in Sussex County and educated at Laurel High School, lives in Bethel. She has been sewing doll clothes for over 60 years, first for her own babydolls as a child and then for her children’s and grandchildren’s dolls. She also makes clothing for Barbies and American Girl dolls. Williams’s doll clothing has been exhibited in other locations and at craft fairs. The doll clothing is for 18-inch dolls, will be for sale, and makes great presents for daughters and granddaughters. The clothing will fit American Girl dolls or any other 18-inch dolls.

The Bethel Historical Society will also have a raffle for the 2014 American Girl Doll of the Year, Isabelle. Raffle tickets will be $2 each or three for $5. Tickets may be purchased at the Bethel Market on Main Street in Bethel where she is on display; by calling Jill Long at 302-875-5965 or Yancey Hillegas at 302-875-5716; by mailing a check with name, address and contact number to Bethel Historical Society, P.O. Box 224, Bethel, DE 19931; or during the Bethel Museum exhibits. The drawing will be held Sept. 28, and the ticket holder does not have to be present to win.

The Bethel Museum, 312 First St., will host this exhibit from 2 to 4 p.m. on the following Sundays: July 20, Aug. 10 and 24 and Sept. 14 and 28. The museum's permanent exhibit featuring the history of large schooners built in Bethel during the 1800s will also be on display.
