Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Delaware will hold the 33rd annual "Bowl for Kids Sake" Wednesday, May 7, at Milford Bowling Lanes.

Founded in 1964,  the organization will be celebrating 50 years of mentoring in Delaware by hosting a 1960s-themed bowling party and fundraiser with pizza, prizes, music and a costume contest.

For the first time this year, teams and individuals who raise $700 or more in support of Big Brothers/Big Sisters, which provides positive role models and mentors for youth, will be entered in a contest to win a vacation for four.

According to Sussex County program manager Raymond Quillen, generations of big brothers and big sisters are now participating in this program.

This event provides past and present mentors and their younger counterparts an opportunity to celebrate and support the program that allowed them to forge their friendships.

To support the mentorship program at the Bowl for Kids Sake, organizers ask each bowler to raise $100 to benefit the organization. The evening includes bowling, auctions, music and raffles, and plenty of fundraising tips are available at registration.

Participants can bowl as part of a team or as individuals. Teams can range from four to six members, but each must raise at least $500.

Quillen said the required donation per bowler can be raised in a variety of ways, including reaching out through social media. Possible sponsors can include co-workers, family members and friends who often help bowlers reach their goal, $10 at a time. Corporate sponsorships may also be available at the organization's website.
