Brad Connor clarifies election issues

By Brad Connor | Sep 04, 2014

There have recently been letters published in several papers misrepresenting my small business ventures.

I want to clarify that I am the owner of Connor's Package Store and the manager of Resort Real Estate Guide and Beach Guide Magazine. This is the total extent of my small business ownership and source of income. I do not own, nor do I receive income, from any payday loan company.

I have also been falsely referred to as a protégé and hand-picked candidate of Councilwoman Joan Deaver. While I had heard of Councilwoman Deaver, I had never met her prior to my filing for the 5th District Sussex County Council position March 5, 2014.

It is true that I have been an elected official in the Town of Dagsboro for 20 years. I am the current mayor of Dagsboro. In a position such as this, I have never run by party affiliation. The only allegiance I have is to the citizens of the town that I have selflessly represented.

Also, I have never received any pay for the positions I have held. I have a 20 year track record in Sussex County politics which stands on its own merit. I suggest that we need to focus on the issues that face District 5 and Sussex County.

Brad Connor
Sussex County Council District 5 candidate

Brad Connor’s recent letter asserts that he is being misrepresented, but here are some facts to the contrary. Regarding his relationship with Councilwoman Joan Deaver: he has her campaign manager running his campaign; according Mr. Connor’s financial report, Mrs. Deaver’s husband made a major donation to his campaign on March 20, 2014 and about 40% of his donors are from Mrs. Deaver’s District 3; Mrs. Deaver endorsed Mr. Connor in her social media postings in April 2014 and has conducted an almost non-stop attack on his opponent for the last three months. Mr. Connor may not have known Mrs. Deaver long, but it looks to me like they have become fast friends and if he wins, he’ll owe her big time.

Regarding Mr. Connor’s payday loan activities, according to the State of Delaware Division of Corporations website, queried again at 4PM yesterday, the registered agent of AAA Cash4U Payday Loans, Inc. is S. Bradley Connor (see screen shot below). The address is that of his liquor store in Bethany Beach. The state banking commission website lists his brother James P. Connor as the lender. Prior to establishing AAA Cash4U Payday Loans, Inc., Mr. Connor was an employee of Cash Advance Plus headquartered in Delmar, DE, the founder of which is also a major donor to his campaign.  For Mr. Connor to simply state that he does not own nor does he receive income from any payday loan company is at best a disingenuous effort to hide his payday loan connections.  Mr. Connor, if I have misrepresented the facts as you suggest, then please enlighten me and I will stand corrected, but this time please tell us the whole story. It’s the ethical thing to do, don’t you think?
