The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition announces two Peer Mentor Support trainings coming up in March for breast cancer survivors. The trainings are for DBCC’s Peer Mentor Support Program, which provides free one-on-one support and education to those newly diagnosed with breast cancer. DBCC peer mentors are trained breast cancer survivors who wish to reach out to help and support others with breast cancer.

The first session will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 1, in New Castle at the Sheraton South. Space is limited; contact Lois Wilkinson at 302-778-1102, Ext. 17 or email lwilkinson@debreastcancer.org to register. The Sheraton is at 365 Airport Road.

The second training will take place from 4:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, at the Hampton Inn, Rehoboth Beach. A light dinner will be provided. Space is limited; contact Connie Holdridge at 302-644-6844 or email choldridge@debreastcancer.org to register. The Hampton Inn is at 18826 Coastal Highway, next to McDonald’s.

This is a free training and no experience is necessary. Registration is required. Topics include listening skills, the mentorship role, confidentiality, problem solving, handling difficult situations, and reporting requirements. Trainees learn through lecture, interactive activities and role plays.

The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a 501c3 organization offering statewide programs and services of education, outreach, and early detection and treatment of breast cancer. All funds raised for DBCC support programs in Delaware and neighboring areas in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey.
