Learn and train at Fight Club Martial Arts in Jeet Kune Do, the combat philosophy created by the legendary Bruce Lee, considered “The Father of Mixed Martial Arts” by (UFC) Ultimate Fighting Championship President, Dana White.
Jeet Kune Do means, “The Way of the Intercepting Fist”. It is an EXPLOSIVE style of martial arts priding itself on speed, directness and effectiveness. It is a style that either men or women will be comfortable with. Bruce was certainly famous for his movies… but he is just as famous for the impact that he had on the martial arts community. He tirelessly researched and studied the martial arts and quickly threw the status quo out the window. Often hailed as the “Father of Mixed Martial Arts”, his research and unmatched determination for furthering the martial arts is still felt today.
The symbol associated with Jeet Kune Do, called Bruce Lee’s Core Symbol, is ringed with Chinese characters that translate to “Using no way as way… having no limitation as limitation”. Our own logo pays homage to his symbol. Jeet Kune Do came about in a time when traditional martial arts reigned and there was very little deviation from traditional form and style. Grandmasters shuddered in horror as Bruce threw tradition out the window. Every bit a philosophy as a fighting art, the principals in Jeet Kune Do can be used in daily life as well as combat.
The techniques taught apply to real life situations and real life combat. Jeet Kune Do is not a sport combative (though it has techniques that a competitor will find highly useful): it is meant for the street and it is meant for self defense.
The basic principles behind Jeet Kune Do are:
3. Non-classical form
The truth is, there aren’t many Jeet Kune Do schools because Bruce gave permission to teach to only a handful of his students. Our own lineage can be traced right back to Bruce Lee’s school in Oakland, California. Fight Club Marital Arts is one of the few schools with the lineage needed to back itself up as an AUTHENTIC Jeet Kune Do school! Learn from a 3rd generation student of Bruce Lee’s!
Bruce highly encouraged his students to learn all they can about other systems and incorporate that which they found useful. In the end, advanced student’s eventually leave the foundation laid by Bruce and ultimately create their own Jeet Kune Do. This is what Bruce meant when he referred to JKD as “the formless form”. This is practically unheard of in other styles and schools, most having a ‘sink or swim’ attitude: either you learn what they are teaching exactly as it is taught or you show yourself the door. At Fight Club Martial Arts, you will learn what works for YOU!
