Cape soccer player and football kickoff specialist Bill Swontek booms the ball like a college kicker. On Sept. 27, he lofted the first kick of the game high and straight to the goal line. The Riders brought it back to the 40, then went on a drive, converting two fourth downs to get into the end zone on a Dean Johnson four-yard run.

Cape responded with an 80-yard drive of its own culminating in a 46-yard run to the left and down the sidelines by Zach Stevenson.

Miguel Merino-Sanchez booted the PAT, and the game was tied at 7. The track meet was just beginning, but the Riders stepped on the gas while Cape sputtered.

Swontek once again sent the ball to the goal line. The problem was, Arthur Miles Miller brought it back 97 yards faster than Cape could close on him.  No one laid a glove on Miller. Tim Steindl’s second PAT made the score 14-7 Caesar Rodney.

The Riders scored on a 10-yard return of a punt block by Dominique Dorsey and a one-yard run by Alexander Kemp for four different touchdown makers and a 28-7 halftime advantage.

The second half saw a 14-yard touchdown by Justin Lopez of Cape and an eight-yard pass from Alex Kemp to Kendell Wicks.

The Riders rushed for 340 yards against Cape.  Stevenson of Cape scored a touchdown and rushed for 100 yards.

The Vikings will host the Bullis School for homecoming Friday, Oct. 4.  Bullis is coached by Pat Cilento, the son of Cape athletic director Bob Cilento.

“Salesianum and Bullis were the two teams available on that date, and our coaches chose Bullis," Bob Cilento said.
