The Matt Haley Companies – Global Delaware Fund recently donated $2,000 to Camp Barnes for pool renovations at the camp.

"We are grateful for all Camp Barnes and the state police do for Delaware's youth, so the least we can do is help support their cause on an ongoing basis," Matt Haley said. "It's important for people to know how much these men and women give above and beyond and how important it is for these children to feel a part of."

Camp Barnes summer camp teaches adventure-based outdoor learning at its facility on Millers Creek, a tributary of Little Assawoman Bay. Campers participate in an extensive outdoor course with 17 initiative and team-building elements and a scaled-down version of the Olympics. They also attend demonstrations by Delaware State Police K-9, scuba and aviation units.

Camp Barnes was originally designed to provide the children who were unable to attend the opportunity to experience life at a summer youth camp. Camp Barnes has remained basically unchanged, providing Delaware children with these outdoor experiences for over 50 years. The summer camp is an overnight residential camp run by the Delaware State Police and is open to children between the ages of 10 and 13 at no cost to the camper or family. Camp Barnes accommodates 60 campers per week for six weeks. The camp is in session from early July through August. All children are eligible to attend regardless of family income.

Presenting the check are (l-r) Camp Barnes board member Shannon Colburn, board member Scott Kammerer, Camp Barnes Coordinator Master Cpl. Shawn Hatfield, board member Meredith Marshall and Troop 4 Commander Capt. Sean Moriarty.
