CAMP Rehoboth Women's FEST returns April 10 to 13

Jan 25, 2014

CAMP Rehoboth Women’s FEST, a premier event for the celebration of women and the issues and topics of interest to them, will be held Thursday to Sunday, April 10 to 13, in Rehoboth Beach. The four-day annual festival is filled with events designed to educate, inspire and entertain.

The fest also introduces participants to the area and its businesses and supports CAMP Rehoboth, which has been serving the LGBT community in Rehoboth Beach for 23 years.

Women’s Fest is made possible in part by the generous sponsorship of the city’s business community and this year’s event is expanding its offerings of entertainers, authors, workshops, sports events, art shows and more. Cochair Dottie Cirelli says, “The event organizers strive to keep the fest affordable while targeting timely issues related to body, mind and spirit.”

The festival begins with a Thursday, April 10 evening dance party at the Atlantic Sands Hotel and Conference Center. Entertainment will be provided by local talent and popular vocalist Viki Dee. Mixing the dance music will be Rehoboth’s own DJ Nan.

American country music artist and gay rights activist Chely Wright headlines this year's musical entertainment with a performance at 8 p.m., Friday, April 11,  at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Wright rose to fame as a commercial country singer, and the Academy of Country Music named her Top New Female Vocalist of 1995. In May 2010, Wright released her eighth album, "Lifted Off the Ground," and made history by being the first country music star to come out publicly as gay. Her journey is documented in the memoir “Like Me.”

Comedian Karen Williams will perform her comedic magic Saturday evening, April 12, at the Atlantic Sands Hotel. She’ll also host a comedy bingo game on Saturday afternoon. Williams is a comic master, gifted actor, talented writer, and inspirational lecturer.

Rehoboth Ale House, 15 Wilmington Ave., will host a speed dating event. This popular women’s venue will also feature entertainment on Friday and Saturday evening by Philly-born guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist Christine Havrilla. Havrilla fuses fantastic guitar work with vocals. She combines elements of rock, blues, and country, and she was named one of the Top Ten Indie Artists by The Advocate magazine.

SheWho is a feminist, women’s, mostly a cappella vocal ensemble dedicated to the beauty, power, and importance of women’s voices. Founded in 2000, SheWho has performed at Sistersingers and National Women’s Music Fest, as well as many local venues and events in the Philadelphia area. Members sing to celebrate women, to express their diverse experiences of spirit, and to promote social change and justice. SheWho will perform Saturday afternoon at the CAMP Rehoboth Community Center.
