Cancer Fund seeks players, sponsors for Sept. 30 golf tourneyJean & Joan Fund Charity Golf Tournament to be held at Kings Creek Country Club
Beebe Medical Center’s Tunnell Cancer Center on Route 24 in Rehoboth Beach recently showcased its latest patient care equipment - a new computer Workstation on Wheels that allows nurses to remain at a patient’s bedside for patient care and charting.
The purchase of six WOWs was made possible by a contribution of $39,000 by the local Jean and Joan Cancer Fund. The fund raises money for direct patient care at the Tunnell Cancer Center through an annual Charity Golf Tournament.
The 14th Annual Jean & Joan Fund Charity Golf Tournament will be held Monday, Sept. 30, at Kings Creek Country Club. The scramble format tournament will feature lunch, a post-tournament cocktail hour, dinner, awards, and live and silent auctions. Registration fee is $175 per person. Sponsorship opportunities range from $450 to $6,000 with appropriate benefits and recognition opportunities for sponsors.
Since its founding in 1999, the Jean & Joan Cancer Fund has donated $355,000 for cancer patient support at the Tunnell Cancer Center. After the 2012 tournament, the fund donated $22,000 to the center for general patient purposes. Since 2004, the fund has purchased three vans to transport remote patients for treatment or early cancer detection testing, and other emergency and diagnostic equipment. In 2007, it joined Tunnell Cancer Center in creating a Patient Special Needs Fund. The Jean and Joan fund has also supported construction of a scenic wall in the Tunnell Healing Garden, and established a library and center for fitting cosmetic and prosthetic devices for recovering cancer patients.
The new, state-of-the-art computerized WOWs, in addition to increasing nurse efficiency and allowing nurses to spend more bedside time with patients, provide bedside storage of medications and supplies, and improve patient safety.
Local businesses and professionals are encouraged to become sponsors of the Sept. 30 tournament, and individuals and foursomes are needed to participate in this festive event, to help continue the fund’s significant support for patients at the Tunnell Cancer Center.
