Cape baseball falls 13-6 to Spartans comeback
The Cape Henlopen baseball team finished its season with a "close, but no cigar" loss to St. Mark's, a game in which the Vikings led 5-0 going into the third inning but eventually lost 13-6 to the top-ranked Spartans.
The Spartans offense came alive in the sixth inning when they put up five runs to take the lead, then racked up six more in the seventh. The Vikings added one run in the seventh, but it was too little, too late as they fell to 7-11 on the season.
Vikings junior catcher David Kwan led the squad as he slugged two doubles and knocked in three runs for Cape.
Pitchers Alec McCoy and Kai Vitella teamed to allow the Spartans 13 hits in the game.
Dominic DiSabatino led the Spartans with three hits and three RBIs. Calvin Scott, Tommy Freeland, Jon Mathers, and Pete Berardi each had two hits for St. Mark's.
The game finished the Cape careers for seniors Griffin Kammerer, D.D. Gooch, Zack Stevenson, Jon Jon Warren and Austin Brooks.
