Max Euler went to warp speed and chased down a seemingly harmless ball sent through by Elliot Young to ring the bell and put Cape on the board at 36:35 of the first half as the undefeated Cape soccer team led Milford 1-0 at halftime.

The Saturday high noon game was a restart from the beginning of an earlier contest cancelled by lightning.

Cape quickly added an exclamation point seven minutes into the second half when Miguel Marino scored topside off a pass from Tyler Malloy for a 2-0 advantage that proved to be the final score.

“I hope Miguel’s goal helps him to stop pressing, because we really need another scorer to go along with Max,” said coach Gary Montalto.

Cape outshot the Bucs 15-3 with a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Milford goalie Evan Becker was credited with 10 saves.

The Vikings now move into a showdown week, hosting Polytech at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1, and Caesar Rodney at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3.

Polytech has a 3-1 conference loss to Caesar Rodney while the Riders lost an early season game to Charter 2-1.

“We struggled a little against Polytech at a play day, so it's my job to make sure Cape isn’t looking ahead to CR,” Montalto said.

"Caesar Rodney is deeper than any Henlopen Conference team by far,” Montalto said. “It will be a war when we play them.”

Cape lost at Caesar Rodney 4-3 last year in overtime as each team put 22 shots on goal.

The Riders lost in the state semifinal to Salesianum 3-0.
