Two hundred would-be fans missed a good basketball game Dec. 6 at Sussex Tech, as the Cape Henlopen Vikings kept their emotional composure in front of a sold-out, packed house of 1,200 to win 81-73 over the Ravens.

The win was the fifth in a row for the Vikings over the Ravens

“I knew the team that kept their emotional composure would win the game," said coach Steve Re. “We did a good job being patient and playing under control on offense, but on defense it was another story. Usually you don’t give up 73 to your rival on their court and walk away with a win."

Cape rode the trio of senior experience as Tyreik Burton with 21, Jon Warren with 18, and Toney Floyd with 16 combined for 55 points.

The Ravens countered with their own Big Three, as Robert Larkin, 31, Shi’wuan Sykes,18, and Rae’Kwan Deshields, 10, accounted for 59 points.

Cape led at halftime 39-29 and just about emptied the bench without hesitation or reservation.

“We have kids who have been doing the job since they came here and are not afraid to step into the moment,” Re said.

Jordan Howell, Ryan Thornburg, Kai Vitella, Austin Brooks and Kyle Orton all gave Cape big minutes in the first half.

A Cape surge in the second half led by Burton's three three-point goals propelled the Vikings to the victory.

The Ravens' Robert Larkin was relentless on the offensive glass, as Cape had no answer for the slashing forward who had 31 points including a two-handed slam on a transition basket.

Cape will play at Smyrna Tuesday, Dec. 10. The Eagles lost at Caesar Rodney on opening night 53-45.

Sussex Tech plays at Dover Dec. 10. The Senators lost to Newark in their home opener 59-52.
