The Cape Henlopen boys' basketball team used consistency and depth to outlast a scrappy Indian River squad 81-61 in front of a large crowd at the Vikings' Big House Jan 14.

The big three of Jon Jon Warren, Toney Floyd and Tyreik Burton put up huge numbers of 19, 16 and 14, respectively.

"We had good balance from Jon Jon, Toney and Tyreik," said coach Steve Re. Re was quick to praise Floyd's play in the contest.

"Toney is our X-factor," said Re. "When Toney is focused and executing on both ends of the floor, offensively and defensively, we are a very good team."

Floyd went 4-for-9 from the field and 8-for-11 from the foul line for his 16 points while snatching six steals in the contest.

Cape went into the halftime break up 39-29 and outscored the Indians 42-32 in the second half, but the Indians proved they just wouldn't go away.

"They [Indian River] play hard," said Re. "They scrap, jump and chase. I was surprised they played man-to-man as long as they did. They try to jump all of the time."

Starting forward Jordan Howell bounced back from having two early fouls to contribute quality time for the Vikings.

"Jordan [Howell] gave us a spark tonight," said Re. "He really focused in the second half and had a lot of success."

Defensively, the Vikings held the Indians under 20 in each quarter.

"Solomon [Cox] gives us constancy on defense and good solid minutes off the bench," said Re.

Indian River coach Mike Fabber was pleased with his team's effort against the 6-4 Vikings.

"I wanted to play Cape this season," said the second-year head coach. "We play with heart, and we're building ourselves on earned pride."

Senior Jaevon Holland led the Indians with 25 points.
