The Cape Henlopen boys lacrosse team left it all on the turf of Legends Stadium April 17 as they defeated a tough St. John's College High School from Washington, D.C., 6-5.

"It was a great overall team effort," said Vikings head coach Jack Lingo. "We faced some adversity in the third quarter when St. Johns made a run, but we found a way to win. Every player contributed to the win."

Seniors Todd Keen and Blake Mann led the Vikings with two goals each, while Jeb Monigle and Luke Benson each scored a single goal. Benson and Keen tallied two assist in the contest.

St. John's outshot the Vikings 28-23.

"St. John's were a real scrappy team," said assistant coach Mark D'Ambrogi. "They were tough defensively and played really aggressive. We handled the pressure, and Grant [Gillan] had a great game.

Senior goalie Grant Gillan turned in a stellar performance, saving 15 St. John's shots in the game.

"My defense played phenomenally," said Cape senior goalkeeper Grant Gillan. "By playing tough, they gave me some easy shots to see. It was our best defensive game."

Cape went into halftime with a 3-0 lead before St. John's got on track by outscoring the Vikings 4-2 in the third quarter. The teams exchanged goals in the fourth quarter to finish the game.

The Vikings will host St. Mark's Wednesday, April 23.
