Cape had a good Saturday home scrimmage day March 8, going against Bishop Shanahan and Penncrest High School but finished the day getting toasted by the Friars of Malvern Prep.

The Friars are coming off a 16-2 season in 2013 and a computer power ranking of 99. 7 by the Lax Power website.

Cape is coming off a 13-5 season with a power rating of 89.4 and is ranked fourth in Delaware behind Salesianum, Saint Mark’s and Caesar Rodney.

Cape has a senior-heavy team going into the 2014 schedule led by goalies Grant Gillan and Tony Iammatteo and defenders Thomas Ott, Aaron Mattioni, Austin McCoy, Garrett Becker and Juan Saez.

Todd Keen, Justin Lopez, Luke Benson, Matt Kane, Blake Mann and Hunter Dailey are midfield and attack seniors who will be counted on for scoring and leadership.

The Vikings have not had a consistent preseason of practice days, but don’t open the regular season until March 22 at a strong Bullis School of Maryland. Then Cape hosts Sussex Tech March 26 before heading back across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge for an April 2 game versus Severn School.
