The Cape boys' lacrosse team beat Brandywine in the opening round of the DIAA state tournament 17-2 May 21 at Legends Stadium and will play Archmere at home at 5 p.m., Saturday, May 24, in a quarterfinal game.

Archmere defeated Caravel 19-8 to reach the rematch with Cape. The Vikings beat the Auks 13-10 April 5 in a game that was pretty even up.  Archmere, 11-4 on the regular season, does have an unexplainable 9-8 home loss to Delmar May 13, a team Cape beat 17-2 to win the Henlopen Conference title.

Goals for Cape  in the Brandywine game came from Luke Benson with 4, Blake Mann 3, Jeb Monigle 2, Kyle Orton 2, Justin Lopez 2 and singles from Tom Ott, Todd Keen, Michael Hopkins and Erik Stancofski. Assists were Benson 4, Orton 2, Hopkins 2, Mann and Keen.

Cape outshot the Bulldogs 37-20.

Grant Gillan with 3 saves and Chris Argo with 2 shared time in the goal cage.

The winner of the Cape versus Archmere game will move on to play the winner of Middletown at Saint Mark's in the semifinals.

In the upper bracket, Salesianum will host Tower Hill May 24 while Caesar Rodney is home versus Appoquinimink.
