Dover was down 8-0 to Cape lacrosse with less than two minutes in the half when the Senators' long pole midfielder Ryan McQuaide came right down Broadway and bounced home a shot for a goal. A large Dover crowd cheered loudly with a prominent voice screaming, "Now we've got them right where we want them."

And with seconds remaining until break, McQuaide threw a half-field shot toward the Cape crease where a gang of Senators and a crew of Vikings were hanging about. Tony Iammatteo never saw the speeding ball through the hamper of white socks until it crossed into his cage at the buzzer.

"Believe it or not, that was a planned play. We actually practice it," said Dover assistant Ronnie Allen. "We figured maybe we had a run in us in the second half."

Dover made it scary, coming all the way back to 10-7 early in the fourth quarter, but the Vikings surged for six unanswered goals, winning 16-7 and setting up a rematch with rival  Caesar Rodney Wednesday, May 22.

"Lacrosse is a game of surges and runs. I thought our kids responded well to their comeback," Cape's Jack Lingo said after the game. "Our defensemen were solid, and we did a good job picking up ground balls. Having Matt Kane back off the injured list had really opened up our offense."

Todd Keen, Michael Hopkins and Luke Benson all had 3 goals for Cape while Matt Kane, Justin Lopez and Blake Mann each had 2 goals, and Nick DiGuglielmo had 1.

Assists for Cape  were Kane 2, Hopkins 2, Benson, Mann and DiGuglielmo.

Dover goals were scored by Dennis Hallock 2, McQuaide 2, Godfrey Webb, Joshua Clendaniel and Devon Hallock.

Cape outshot the Senators 34-23.

Tony Iammatteo had 6 saves while Dover's Mackenzie Ware had 8.
