Cape didn't go down in flames, but went down trailing smoke. The Vikings came all the way back from a 54-33 deficit after the Hawks ran 15 unanswered points to trail 61-55 with a minute to play, but just couldn't pull off the miracle comeback.

Toney Floyd was the stuff for Cape all night long, leading all scorers with 23 points.

Jon Jon Warren finished with 12 points, and Tyreik Burton had 11. Both seniors had off nights. Cape turned the ball over 14 times, while the Hawks had 13 turnovers.

Lamar Hamrick, the sophomore star for the Hawks, finished with 22 points.

"We picked a bad night to have a bad night," coach Steve Re said after the game. "But our late-season run was a testament to the toughness of our kids. I was very proud of them. The experience of playing at The Bob will stay with them forever and inspire our younger kids to work to get back."

Salesianum went on to win the state championship, beating Saint Georges in the finals game 50-45. Salesianum won the game despite shooting 14-34 from the free-throw line.
