Cape girls' lacrosse doesn't reload; coaches always have several loaded seasons in the barrel. The Vikings lose start power every year, and yet on close inspection over the last five championship seasons, they had more production coming back than what had been lost to graduation.

And March 28 in a walkover 22-1 win over visiting Caesar Rodney, the Vikings went spread red and held the ball for the final six minutes.

Sarah Tappan, healthy and pain-free from nagging stress fractures, lit up the scoreboard with 6 goals while Allie Yeager cranked home 4 with 5 assists. Jordan Brown added 3, and freshman Cailey Thornburg had a pair of goals. Single goals were scored by Tess Bernheimer, Lizzie Frederick, Karalyn Joseph, Karissa Lemaire, Kat Judge, Cam Wick and Lexi Woodruff.

Cape's goals were assisted on 14 of 22, and 16 of the goals were scored by underclassmen.

Last year, Riley Wagner and Amanda Smith were midfielders on a 17-1 state championship team; this year their athleticism went to the defensive side of the field as Thornburg, Bernheimer and Alison Palmer stepped into the midfield lineup joining Joseph, Judge and Frederick.

Sam Broadhurst, still just a junior, has been locked in early in the goal cage.

Cape was scheduled to play at a resurgent Sts. Peter and Paul March 31 then host Dover Tuesday, April 1, before heading to play a solid Archmere squad Saturday, April 5.
