Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge observes Flag Day

Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 on Beaver Dam Road near Lewes held its Annual Flag Day ceremony June 8. With the help of members of Boy Scout Troop 2540 from Lewes, Exalted Ruler Steve Pepe traced the history of the flag as Scouts placed the flags at the front of the room. Shown using a small flag in tracing the history of the flag is Pepe.


Boy Scouts (l-r) Steve Smailer, Jacob Brown, Lee Downs and Collin Sullivan fold the flag as Pepe describes the significance of each fold.
Esteemed Leading Knight Armand Zinnato recites the Pledge of Allegiance during the ceremony.
Carrying the current 50 star flag to the front of the room is Boy Scout Jamel Johnson.
At the conclusion of the ceremony the worn and unserviceable flags are burned.
During the retirement of the flag ceremony, Past Exalted Ruler Gary Eckenrode places a worn and unserviceable flag in the center of the room.
