The Cape Henlopen Senior Center was incorporated in 1966. The purpose of the Cape Henlopen Senior Center was, and is, to provide a multi-purpose Senior Center for older adults, where they might meet and enhance their daily life. The programs of the center are to provide social, recreational and educational opportunities, as well as outreach and counseling. A vital service of our Senior Center is outreach. We provide assistance to people who need help with Medicare, filling out insurance forms, billing and helping with secondary insurance billing and problems.
The Board of Directors and Officers are made up of representatives of churches, civic organizations and businesses in the area. The membership of the Center has grown from 30 in 1967, to 450 in 1975; and presently, we have approximately 1,000 members, A daily program of activities is maintained, with the daily participation being about 150. The staff of the Center consists of an Executive Director, Program Coordinator, Bookkeeper, and two Bus Drivers/Handyman. Our budget is derived from State Grant-in-Aid, dues donations, donations from churches and civic organizations and many fundraisers. The greatest thing dispensed by the Cape Henlopen Senior Center is sociability, and many friendships have been made, making life more pleasant for many people. Rehoboth Beach is the fastest growing retirement area not only in Sussex County, but, in the entire State of Delaware.
