The Cape field hockey team rolled down Salvage Road south of Greenwood on a late Tuesday afternoon to face a dangerous Woodbridge team that had played everyone tough, including upsetting Sussex Tech 2-1 in overtime, while losing to undefeated Polytech 3-2 and a dropping a 2-1 game to a 9-3 Caesar Rodney team.

Blue Raider Aitia Anderson is tall, rangy and athletic. She had a 16-save game against Sussex Tech and 11 versus Polytech.

Cape’s story line over the last four games is a plethora of shots and a paucity of goals scored.

That all went by the board at Woodbridge Oct. 8, as Cape rang the bell six times in the first half and played an amazing 27 athletes in a 7-0 shutout that seemed to stun the Blue Raiders.

Cape's leading scorer with two consecutive sudden victory goals over the last two games, Allie Yeager had a hat trick in the first half, while sophomore Erin Coverdale, in her second start, notched two first half goals.

Yeager’s three goals were assisted by Coverdale, Tiara Duffy and Lizzie Frederick, while the Coverdale scores were assisted by Duffy and Cam Bernheimer. Duffy’s goal just before halftime at 1:24 was assisted by Frederick.

Tess Bernheimer scored with 3:57 left to play.

Katie Kolobielski did not have to make a save, while Tina Gooding was credited with four.

Anderson had 14 saves for the Raiders.

Cape is now 8-0-1 on the regular season. Cape was scheduled to host winless Sussex Central Thursday, Oct. 10 then travel four hours to play Bloomsburg High School of Pennsylvania Saturday, Oct. 12.

Bloomsburg, a 2A power in Pennsylvania, was undefeated at 10-0 coming into Cape last season then lost the JV game 9-0 before losing the varsity contest 4-0.
