The Cape lacrosse team cranked out a complete game May  24 at Legends Stadium in the quarterfinal round of the DIAA boys' lacrosse tournament, running a good Archmere team out the house 17-5.

“Fourteen of our 17 goals were by assists,” said offensive coach Mark D' Ambrogi. “We did most of our damage in unsettled situations in the transition game."

Unlike an earlier meeting this season that was tied at the half and won by Cape 13-10, Saturday’s game had little drama.

Cape put together a 12-2 run in the middle period to eliminate all doubt and to start the running clock with a 14-3 advantage.

“Grant  [Gillan] was just unbelievable in the game and so was Thomas [Ott] on the draw and on defense. Archmere is a very dangerous team. They show up and play hard,“ said head coach Jack Lingo.

Cape was paced in scoring by Blake Mann 6, Luke Benson 3, Todd Keen 2, and Michael Hopkins 2; Matt Lally, Tom Ott, Justin Lopez and A.J. Marshall each had singles. Assists were Keen 4, Benson 4, Ott 2, Mann, Hopkins, Lopez and Monigle.

Archmere goals were scored by Ryan Beatson 2, Robert Baxter, Colin Duffy and Adam Revak.

Cape outshot the Auks 39-31. Gillan was credited with 16 saves. Aaron Allender and Jake Mottola combined for 9 saves for Archmere.

The semifinals are scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, place and time to be announced.
