"We had 29 first-half shots and their goalie had a dozen saves, and that was just the first half," Cape coach P.J. Kesmodel said after his talented team dialed in eight different scorers on the way to a not so fast and easy 19-7 win over the visiting Cardinals of St. Andrew's May 18 at Champions Stadium.

St. Andrew's goalie Ellen Cooper played out of her mind in the first half and so did several Cape shooters, but when freshman Lizzie Frederick went upper far corner giving Cape a 4-2 advantage, Kesmodel said, "She's the first one who looked where she was shooting."

The improbable first half saw midfielders Lizzie Frederick and Amanda Smith each with a pair of goals, the first multiple-goal games of their careers.

St. Andrew's Helen Cammerzell, a quick left-hander, had 4 goals for the Cardinals.

Sara Young led all Cape scorers with 4 goals while Anna Frederick and Sara Tappan each had 3.  Two-goal scorers for Cape were Kat Judge, Smith, Allie Yeager and Lizzie Frederick. Karalyn Joseph also scored.

Allie Yeager opened up the offense by dishing off 4 assists while Judge and Joseph each had 2. Single assists were from Riley Wagner, Jordan Brown and Lexi Woodruff.

St. Andrew's goals were by Cammerzell 4, Elyse Saliba, Joan Oates and Maggie Whiteman. Oates and Elizabeth Wainwright each had an assist.

Cape outshot the Cardinals 42-17.

Sam Broadhurst had 5 saves for the Vikings.

Cape will host the Raiders of Ursuline in a semifinal showdown at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 21, at Champions Stadium. Tower Hill will host Archmere in the other semifinal game.

The championship game will be played Thursday, May, 23. The site will most likely be Dover if Cape advances, but if the No. 1-seeded Vikings are upset, the title game will move to New Castle County.
