Cape lax girls defeat Polytech Panthers 20-8 to stay unbeatenPanthers drop first game of season
The Cape girls' lacrosse team defeated a dangerous Polytech squad April 16 in Woodside 20-8 after jumping out early to a 7-0 advantage.
The win moved the Vikings to 6-0 on the season, while the Panthers of coach Lynn Richardson lost for the first time this season and fell to 4-1.
“Polytech has some really good players; they are very athletic and strong, and they have a bunch of young kids who play club and have skills,” coach P.J. Kesmodel said. “Anyone who takes them lightly can quickly get into trouble. They scored the same amount of goals against us as Holy Cross, mostly one-on-one, dodging-type goals. We are far from where we need to be defensively.”
Cape can crank some offense, though, with a diverse arsenal of weapons.
Anna Frederick led all Cape scorers with 6 goals followed by Allie Yeager, Sara Young and Sarah Tappan each with 3, Jordan Brown and Carolyn Joseph 2, and Lexi Woodruff 1.
Cape assists were Yeager 3, A. Frederick 2, Brown 2, Tappan, Wagner and Young.
The Panthers were led by Addie Stang and Jamie Trabaudo each with 3 and single goals from Kathryn Richardson and Jenna Hayes. Cape outshot the Panthers 33-15.
Sam Broadhurst was credited with 4 saves while Taylor Lyon of Polytech had 4.
Polytech was set to host once-beaten Caravel April 18 while Cape hosted Saints Peter and Paul April 18.
