Two Delaware seashore icons, the Cape May-Lewes Ferry and Delaware Breakwater East End Light, are featured in a new silkscreen print by Erick Sahler Serigraphs of Salisbury, Md. The limited-edition print will debut at the yArt Sale Aug. 30 and 31 in Bethany Beach.

"Lewes Ferry," a nine-color screen-printed image, shows a returning ferry sailing past the historic red beacon, one of two lighthouses standing guard off Lewes. The print is the 17th in Sahler's My Hometown series celebrating landmarks that are special to Delmarva residents and visitors. Other My Hometown prints have featured Bethany Beach's wooden Indian statue, a Bethany Beach cottage on Campbell Place and the Ocean City boardwalk.

The print is the third is Sahler's Believe in Ferries series, which also includes the Oxford Ferry and the Whitehaven Ferry.

"Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2014, the Cape May-Lewes Ferry is the largest of Delmarva's five car ferries. This print shows the MV New Jersey, launched in 1974, passing the East End Light as seen from one of my favorite getaways, Cape Henlopen State Park," Sahler said.

The image, which was designed and hand-printed by Sahler, is 16-by-20-inches. There are 125 prints in the edition. They sell for $85 unframed and $135 framed.

The yART Sale is an annual Labor Day weekend event in Bethany. It will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday at 33258 Kent Ave. The works of more than 20 artists will be featured. Admission is free.

All serigraphs by Sahler are printed by hand in his Salisbury studio using Earth-friendly archival inks on all-cotton, acid-free paper.

Sahler, 47, is a Salisbury native who graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County with a bachelor's degree in visual and performing arts. He has created commercial artwork for clients across the Eastern Shore since 1983.
