Cape softball wins two to even record

Vikings searching for wins as postseason approaches

The Cape softball team won two games this week to even its record at 7-7 and get back into the discussion for the upcoming state tournament. The Vikings have three games remaining to make one final push.

On May 6, the Vikings brought their bats along to Caesar Rodney as they whipped the Riders 12-2 in a five-inning, mercy-rule game. Tiara Duffy pitched a complete game for Cape to earn the win. She allowed five hits.

At the plate, Alexis Burger, Jasmin Williamson, and Jordyn Virden had two hits apiece for Cape.

The Vikings were right back at it May 7 as they hosted Hodgson Vo-Tech. The girls came to play again and scratched out a tight 5-4 win.

Cape played for the third straight day May 8 versus Polytech, and the Vikings are slated to finish off the regular season with three more next week. The Vikings will host Smyrna (2-11) at 4:15 p.m., Tuesday, May 13; travel to Georgetown for a 4:15 game against Sussex Central (5-7) Wednesday, May 14; and end the season at home with St. Mark's (4-8) Friday, May 16, again at 4:15 p.m.
