The Cape Henlopen High School Theatre Academy, led by Director Martha E Pfeiffer, went to the regional section of the American Association of Community Theatre competition in Philadelphia, Pa., held the first weekend in May. The group was the only high school represented, competing against seasoned actors from five states. Not only did these students place third in the scene competition, but senior Andrew Meck received an award for outstanding performance by a male actor.

The Eastern States Theatre Association is a member regional organization, Region II, of the American Association of Non-equity Theatres. It is composed of the five member organizations representing the states of New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey. Its primary functions are to hold the annual ESTA Festival to select the best of the best of the ESTA region and to encourage and support the performance arts through education and networking.

Both performers and adjudicators alike commended Cape’s Theatre Academy students, and they were heartily encouraged to return next year. “I am very proud of our students and all of the success CHHS Theatre Academy has enjoyed this year,” said Pfeiffer. “What a banner year it is has been. We walked away from the Delaware Theatre Fest with top honors, winning best scene, best director, best ensemble and outstanding performance for Emily Stanton, and then to even place at the Eastern States Theatre Fest is incredible! What a talented group of students we have here at Cape!”
