There may be a new sport on the spring landscape, call it “track and field trip.” The Cape boys' team improved to 7-1 with home victories over Smyrna 99-47 and Lake Forest 110-36 April 23 at Legends Stadium

Coach Matt Lindell has the Vikings boys back in the conversation for teams to watch at the conference and state championships.

The last weekend in April is always Penn Relays weekend, and that will be followed by a showdown tri-meet versus Sussex Tech and Milford on April 30 at Sussex Tech. The spring is also school field trip season, the eternal struggle between academics and athletics with the parent getting to make the final call, placing the coach in a quandary.

Cape swept all field events versus Smyrna with Mike Miller winning the shot 44-1 and discus 129-5 and Jeremiah Cohen winning the high jump 6-0, long jump 20-9 and triple jump 43-1.

Dylan Elkins won the pole vault 8-6.

Nelson Bermudes won the 110 hurdles 16.2 and 300 hurdles 44.0.

Tyreik Burton captured the 100 m 10.9 and 200 m 23.1.

The Vikings also won the 400 relay (Burton, Dukes, Hazzard, Mills ) 45.2, 800 relay (Burton, Dukes, Allen, Mills) 1:33 and 1,600 relay (Dukes, Allen, Hazzard, Mills) 45.2.

Maurice Mills also won the 400 meters in 53.9.

Outstanding performances for Lake Forest in the meet included sprinter Johnny Crenshaw, who won the 100 meters in 10.8, and shot putter John Flamer with the best throw of the day at 46-6.
