The Cape Henlopen volleyball team came out scrapping against an undefeated Polytech team, but when the series was over the Panthers moved to 9-0 on the season by taking a 25-19, 25-21 and 25-18 victory back to Woodside.

"The team was really vocal today," said Cape coach Carrie Evick. "We played three great games. We made some silly mistakes. If we take those out, we can compete with anyone."

Senior libero Kristin Perkinson led the Lady Vikings with 22 digs in the contest. Mallory McDonald bumped 13 digs; Alison Palmer and Izzie Marsico each had 10 while Kira Vitella bumped eight.

Megan Hart was a powerhouse at the net with five kills and six blocks of Panthers kill attempts. Palmer, Megan Grahne and Cameron Wick scored four, three and two kill shots, respectively.

Palmer assisted in nine Cape points.

"Serving really hurt us today," said Evick. "We gave away as many points as we lost by. We need to take each serve as serious as the one before and not just assume 'We got this'.'"

The Panthers controlled the net, hitting 27 kill shots in the match to Cape's 15.

"We have been nervous at the net," said Evick. "We work on it as a main focus in practice to try to overcome the nerves. This team can play with anyone and I think that we will cut down on the unforced errors and finish the regular season strong."

The Cape junior varsity squad dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 loss to the JV Panthers. Both teams displayed high quality volleyball to the appreciative crowd in attendance.

The 8-2 Vikings host the 7-3 Ravens of Sussex Tech Thursday, Oct. 10. Junior varsity begins play at 4 p.m., with varsity to follow.
