Cape wrestling a day later and two matches short
At Sussex Tech Jan. 31, a day after a 30-29 win at Polytech, the Cape wrestling team came up two dollars short versus the Ravens, losing two overtime bouts and the match 36-25. A 12-point swing was the difference between winning a close one and losing by 11.
Cape had beaten Indian River 57-18 and Woodbridge 39-23 in the quad format meet while Tech had beaten IR 52-19 and Woodbridge 59-12.
The Vikings were trailing in the match versus Tech but in good position until Andre Flowers was leading Riley Parker 5-3 but gave up a takedown that sent the bout into overtime where Parker struck again for a 7-5 victory.
Viking Hunter Dailey at 195 beat Ryan Parker 6-5 followed by a Tom Ott pin over Joshua James at 220.
Nick Carroll wrestled Zach Bell, a pair of light heavyweights. Bell also tied Carroll late in the match, then won in overtime 4-2.
“We win with Andre and Nick, we win the match by a point and both were winning late,” coach Chris Mattioni said. “But give their kids credit, they delivered with the match on the line."
Cape, 6-4 on the season, wrestles at Laurel Wednesday, Feb. 6, then hosts Salesianum at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 9.
